Mas Selamat, with GPS Tracking?

Do you remember Mas Selamat? The suspected terrorist who escaped from Whitley Detention Centre? Or rather, supposedly escaped?

Now do you still remember? Yeap, he's the guy who managed to evade capture, and still is doing it successfully for over 5 months? And to top it all off, he can't run. Even if he does, he'll be running with a limp!

I've got a suggestion to prevent potential prison break personnel from disappearing. Not a very bright one, but it'll do just fine. I think.

I'm suggesting, slapping on a GPS tracking device on ALL suspects. Perhaps, it could also be used to replace the identity tags. GPS tracking isn't actually space-age technology if you ask me. It has been in the market for quite some time since the early 80's and they're not difficult to use. Even the men in green use it from the highest of ranks to the lowest.

With this GPS tracking a prison personnel monitoring the system could know exactly where the inmate is without even communicating to the guard escorting the inmate. This is useful as to Mas Selamat's case when he disappeared while doing his business in the toilet. The guard, well, wasn't on guard and didn't keep Mas Selamat in his line of sight. As a result, Mas Selamat had a minute headstart in his flight from Whitley.

However, there is a drawback to this system. From my experience, GPS devices consume a lot of power and won't last 2 days without a change of batteries. So yeah, until we can find an alternative or rechargable source of energy to power it, this system will remain on the drawing board.

i think a better option is for the GPS device to EXPLODE if theres no charging within 48 hours.

That's a great idea! But I think that would be too messy to carry out. Imagine if there is a blackout in prison, in 48 hours, ALL the inmates would die. lolx! Good thing is, there's more room for new ones!
