Is there a Virus Going Around?

Hey hey hey! I've been down the past 3 days. Right immediately after my 2B practical lesson, I felt feverish and took a cab home. Along the way, got a call from my brother who was also down with fever and was waiting for me to send him to the hospital. He's fever was higher than mine and upon seeing him shiver, all signs of fever in me vanished into thin air and I was 100% during that few hours of adrenaline. haha.

But after seeing him into the treatment ward, I plopped down on the seat, and the fever kicked in like nobody's business. That moment of self-healing somewhat lengthen my usual recovery period of 1 day, to 3... and put a hold on everything. From blog updates, to lyric updates to everything. Haiz.

I've got Prac tomorrow. See you there!

Class 2B. 2 Theory Lessons, 2 Theory Practice, 1 Evaluation, 1 Practice.

Today must've been the most tiring day ever. Never try this anywhere kids! And I was riding for no more than 100 mintues!

The plan was to finish off riding theory in one day so that I can get it over and done with. So what I did was book RTL 1.01, RTL 1.02. On top of that, I need to pass my evaluation in order to book my Riding Theory Test. So I booked 2 Riding Theory Practices and 1 Riding Theory Evaluation. Ok so with theory done, I thought I was done with my planning. But somehow my fingers got itchy and booked a Riding Practical lesson just after the evaluation. So it went like this:

RTP
RTL 1.01
RTP
RTL 1.02
RTE
Practical

Bad Move. By the time the first theory lesson was over, my butt was itching all over the place. And by the time I finished my evaluation, I was half-dead. And this half-dead body struggled to complete the practical lesson. lolx. Fortunately with a stroke of luck, I passed and managed to proceed to the next stage.

BUT! I couldn't make it for all the RTT slots on offer!!! ARRRHHHH!!! I'll be in Thailand for all the dates! Haiz.... Looks like I have to abandon my primary goal to complete Class 2B by Aug. Haiz...

Tough luck Mr Wise Guy.

Henderson Waves, Here I Come!

After having went to Redang Island, I'm still in the mood for some 'green' attractions. Something to do that brings myself close to nature and one thing that came closest is the much publicised bridge connecting Mount Faber Hill and Telok Blangah Hill. Okay... so the bridge is man-made. But hey, there might be a lot to offer on the paths towards the bridge.

This bridge, the Henderson Waves, is about 37 metres up and was put together in 2.5 months. It holds the bragging rights of being the tallest bridge on the Island (surprisingly knocking off the Sheares Bridge) and spans some 274m.

From the looks of it, I think I'm gonna try the Marang Trail up till the Canopy Walk, which means some 80minutes of walking or so, provided that I don't stop or take a breather. Perhaps I'm going in with a backpack, a packet of Nasi Sambal Goreng, 1.5L of water and of course not forgetting, the missus. Anybody else interested? Please submit your application forms via comments now!

Do Not Take Panadol for Headache

I received an informative email from mom today, one which didn't affect me, but rather indirectly, as the missus suffers from severe migraines once in a while. Once faced with a throbbing head, she pops one or two Panadol Extra in to reduce the pain. After countless headaches/migraines, popping the magic pill doesn't work anymore...

The email generally tells the reader to avoid taking panadol, be it paracetamol, Panadol Actifast, etc etc. when you have a headache. This was rather contradicting as the reason as to why Panadol was created is to give some form of relief to the patient. But instead, the email states that Panadol is in fact toxic to the body, not to mention cats too! Even a small dose of Panadol/Paracetamol can kill a full-grown cat!
This is because Panadol is toxic to the body, and it harms the liver. According to the doctor, Panadol will reside in the body for at least 5 years.

As far as I can remember, someone told me that Panadol/Paracetamol in excessive doses can damage your liver. If you would like to have a copy of the email, do comment and I'll forward it to you.

The next time you have a headache, try the following alternatives:

  • Buy 1 or 2 cans of isotonic drink ( eg.100 PLUS), and mix it with drinking water according to a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 (simply, it means one cup 100plus, one cup water. or 2 cups water).

  • Submerge your feet in a basin of warm water so that it bring the blood pressure down from your throbbing head.

I hope that helps! Stay headache free guys!

STOMPER, The Traffic Police, and the Masses

I came across this post in STOMP while surfing around, and find that the comments for the post were rather 'interesting'. Apparently, the Stomper was summoned SGD$150 and issued 6 demerit points for switching lanes abruptly and causing a taxi to brake in order to avoid a collision. The Stomper wasn't at all happy with the situation and cited that the Traffic Police officer was unprofessional and shouldn't have tailed him for 2KM before summoning him.

What follows from the post were some 'interesting comments'.

6 points for reckless driving.... $ 150.00 fine. Count yourself lucky he did not imposed more charges against you!

Ghostriderxx said on 26 Apr, 2008
EH HELLO....!!!

What the hell of a thing are you trying to post...

This is clear cut that you are driving recklessly...The reason i say is because YOU DON'T KNOW...That is the whole point...Most people don't...You take ur chance...
You need someone else to remind you...U ok...Kena Tangkap by TP...If Accident how...? Blame the Taxi...?
Next time don post at STOMP...admit your mistake...don point fingers to others...

hello stomper terence

if you wish to dispute, you can always write in to the Tp against the offene. Anyway no offender would admit to their mistakes. This is typically human nature. No point complaining to the SPF feedback cos you still have to pay the fine and gana the dermit points. Unless you choose to fight in court and engage a lawyer to defence you. Even that, there is no assurance that you will win the case. To make the matter worse, you will incur legal fee plus the fine plus the dermit points if you lost the case at the end of the day. You can complain against the TP officer of the above but based on the occurance that had happened, the TP officer was not unprofessional at all and he was doing the right thing. Just pay the fine and get over it.

ethanloh said on 26 Apr, 2008
in wat way he is unprofessional? there is no wrong for him to follow u all the way to the carpark. wat if he try to stop u on the expressway and u try to speed off, it will cause more danger on the road. stopping u in a carpark is a safety measure he should. if u not happy about his summon against u, appeal, no pt broiling it here.

peacekeeper said on 26 Apr, 2008
instead of appealing, a complaint was made and worse when it came thru Stomp. SO the SPF got to reply u. an additiional job to do. All will hate you and all the more they wun let this summon be waived off...U make life difficult for them. They will also do the same to u....

want to appeal?the officer will definitely testify against u in the traffic court...

Stomper Terence, i know your kind of driver on the road. The TP was right to watch you. You must be a very reckless driver. Not only reckless buy maybe inconsiderate to cause the taxi to step on his brakes meaning you have just cut in to his lane without signalling and being too close to cause an accident. I detest such drivers on the road. Real menace. One up for the officer who caught YOU! just admit lah and dont try to pretend you angel.

Come to think of it, I kinda agree with the comments. Though I wished it shouldn't have been so harsh. lolx. One must think of the consequence of one's actions before doing such a thing. But oh well, hopefully the summoned individual learnt his lesson and ought to be humble and admit to the Officer's decision.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police replied to his post here.

The officer couldn't stop the Stomper on time because the traffic conditions there and then wasn't cooperative with his intentions. Thus, he decided to stop him in a carpark which in MY opinion, is safer, rather than the side of the road.

Ride/Drive Safe, Stay Alive aight guys!

I Signed up for Class 2B at BBDC Today!

I'm going to get my Class 2B License! Yeap, I just put pen to paper and will be going through lessons. Registration wasn't much of a hassle. Just went up to the information counter at BBDC (Bukit Batok Driving Centre), told them I wanna enlist (I actually said 'enlist' OMG!!! LIKE ORD LO!) for the Class 2B, paid, and immediately proceed with booking my first few lessons. The lady who registered me was new and forgot to ask me to key in my password for my BBDC account. Other than that minor problem, everything went smoothly.

I've decided to chiong through all my lessons and get to my TP as soon as possible using the shortest route. Possibly aiming for a repeat of my Class 3 feat of 2months, 13 days at a total of $1,704.65. (Can I record this in the Guiness Book of Records?)

There are booking differences between Class 3 and Class 2B. 2 years ago when I was going doing my Class 3, I could book 2 or more practical lessons at one go, arranging them sequentially in a day achieving ridiculous progress within a day. For the motorbike, you can only book one practical lesson and have to complete it before you can book the next. This way, my plan to accelerate is kinda hindered. So, the only way through I can see is going for practical lessons everyday. Which suck basically.

Another significant difference would be the attire while attending practical lessons. Motorbike riders have to be in proper attire:Gloves, long sleeves shirt, long pants/jeans, shoes/boots, helmet liner. This is so unlike Class 3. Lolx. Slipper also can chiong. And I saw the others putting on knee & elbow guards! Macam SISPEC training lah!

Other than that, expect to see me from 0855-1550 on Wednesday as I attempt to complete my Riding Theory Lessons and Riding Theory Evaluation in a single day. Ah, one good thing is that I am exempted from Basic Theory Lessons! Yey! Thanks to my Class 3. heheh.

Is it possible to get this over before school starts in August? I'm really hoping it can work. I've got approximately 2.5 months to do this and only one shot. Don't want my Class 2B to be a hindrance while studying... Pray for me aite!

Need Help in Your Writing?

You come across a time when you need to write your achievements in your resume, or maybe you're required to come up with a short write-up on your progress, and you don't know how to begin with. You just simply have problems starting out, and the thing is, you forgot all the writing techniques that formal education has taught you. What you need is help.

It is fascinating to learn that there are companies who are set up simply just to help you with writing. They provide advice to writing business dissertation. Perhaps you need to acknowledge the people who helped you through dissertation acknowledgement, or maybe you're stuck with your Physics coursework. There is help provided with a fee of course.

Its all up to the individual. Are you willing to ask for help? Or would you just do things the hard way? Choice is yours.

Odd eggs. Weird eggs. An Egg, within an Egg? Possible?

Is an egg within an egg possible? In my lifetime, I've seen cracked chicken eggs having 2 yolks, eggs without yolks and discoloured eggs. But this, is definitely my first time. According to PoultryHelp.com, an egg within an egg happens when an egg that is nearly ready to be laid reverses direction and gets a new layer of albumen covered by a second shell. Sometimes the reversed egg joins up with the next egg and the two are encased together within a new shell. Double shelled eggs are so rare that no one knows exactly why or how they happen.

For more info about odd eggs, double yolk eggs, no yolk eggs, and eggheads, hop on over to PoultryHelp.com.

ORD LO!

No more NSF, no more falling in, no more roll call, no more guard duty, no more extras, no more details, no more regulars to irritate me, no more DXOs to piss me, no more breakdown vehicles to recover, no more rac forms to fill, no more detail sheet to complete, no more meetings to attend, no more spring cleaning, no more rank, no more bus logsheet, no more ISAC card, no more seasoning of beret, no more combat boots, no more carrying balls, no more CO, no more SSG.

How do Monkeys Party at MacRitchie?

How do monkeys party? Do they put on a hat complete with whistles and masks? Well... Not exactly. They tend to dress down rather than up, and have a tendency to be impromptu, usually right after the humans are done with their party. And there's no need for pot luck.

My ORD Holiday at Redang Island

I was thinking of ways to celebrate my ORD with a bang a few months back. What came to mind were a big BBQ, a dinner treat for my closest friends, and there was one point of time I nearly booked a chalet to celebrate the occasion. There is the burning desire to announce to the world of my release from the prison I call, National Service.

I mulled over it and thought to myself, why not spend some money to go on an adventure? Well, I wasn't too keen to cross the Sahara Desert, nor climb Mount Kinabalu. So, I decided to treat myself to a Holiday to Redang Island. Perhaps some Snorkelling or Canoeing would do the trick.

I left on a Sunday at 2230 hours, took a 10++ hours bus ride (I strongly recommend you upgrade youself to an Executive Class coach, the ones with the Snoozer seats. 10++ hours ain't no joke brother) and found myself on a 45 minutes ferry ride to Redang Island. For your info, I booked the trip through Five Stars Travel and Tours Pte Ltd at a grand total of SGD$380. The bundle includes an upgrade to Executive Class Coach (18-Seater), 3 Snorkelling Trips, 2 Nights at Laguna Redang Island Resort (5 stars) and the ferry ride. They have an office at Jurong Point, so yeah, arranged my trip through their JP office.

After all that travelling, I was just looking forward to a bed and sleeping the afternoon away. But hey, once I reached Redang Island at 1100 hours on Monday, I found myself in Paradise. Literally.

Wow. I was awe struck. And that explains the lack of pictures and angles. lolx! Was too tired to recce around and just took what I could from where I sat. Beautiful ain't it? Just imagine sitting there on the wooden bench, shagged out from the journey, and there you are, in paradise... Arrrhhh... Now that's what I call the start of a well-deserved holiday.

I got my room, and checked the itinerary for the day. Snorkelling at 1500 hours. Sweeet... I had my buffet lunch (scrumptious!) and got my gear ready. The rental fee is RM$40 at the Laguna Redang Island Resort Recreation Centre for the snorkel, goggles and lifejacket which I didn't use it. What I liked most was the rental is a one time payment after which you get to keep the equipment for as long as you stay on the island.

One way to keep your goggles from fogging up, is to spit into the lenses and mix it with sea water. Eeeeew... How's that for crystal clear vision. lolx.

These are just some of the boats that ferried us to the snorkelling sites. I was fortunate enough to take a bigger boat for my 1st dive as seen below. heh.

This one was my 2nd trip. I took a smaller boat.

This was rather deep. I remembered I had to dive quite a bit to take this shot.

Nice shot. My personal favourite. The blue fish reminds me of Dory, Nemo's friend.

The underwater shots were taken by the resort divers. They charge RM$5 per shot. You get to choose which ones to keep back at the Resort. In between the Snorkelling trips, I stole some time to go canoeing and also go around exploring the island on foot. Canoeing was charged at RM$10 for as long as you like. But there's a deposit of RM$10 too.

As a member of the Papua New Guinea Special Forces, Canoeing is one of my many water skills.

It was raining in the distance...

Laguna Redang Island Resort! The structure nearest to the beach is where we have our meals and check in. The ones to the left and right of it are the accommodation.

Can you see the crab?

Corals, only 50m away from the beach! This IS NOT an underwater shot! Taken from the surface. Now you get a picture of how clean and clear the water is. That coral is about 4m deep.

Friends.

This natural pool was right in front of another resort!

The beach in front of the resort.

Trying hard to be artistic.

Overall, I'd give this trip a 5/5. I was satisfied as it was money well-spent. I felt rejuvenated and thankful to God for allowing me the chance to view one of his many magnificent creations. The corals were breathtaking, fishes were everywhere, and the company was definitely enjoyable. If you were to head on to Redang Island, make sure everything you're gonna carry is waterproof. Including yourself! Equip yourself with the necessary swimming skills first or else you're not able to see the beautiful corals.

There are more to Snorkelling and Canoeing at Redang Island. There's the spa, beach volleyball, banana boat ride, and there are pubs to visit. Everything just slows down to a crawl over there and time seems to stand still for the duration you're there.

I hated that Wednesday as I had to return back to Singapore. Just wished I could extend another day....... Haiz. That's all for Redang Island!
