Donate to Dana Madrasah: Kemajuan Madrasah, Kewajipan Bersama

I received a letter from MUIS (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura) a few days back requesting donation to the Dana Madrasah. Basically Dana Madrasah was formed in 1994 in aid of full-time madrasah. Funds are used to pay the madrasah teachers, madrasah professors, improve the schools, achieve high educational standards (madrasah students take O'Levels FYI) and develop IT infrastructure.

Problem is, I'm broke. Like really really broke. I've not even enough to sustain myself. Not enough to ask the missus out for a date, not enough to go get myself a drink and definitely not enough to upgrade my dying PC which continues to restart by itself every so often. I think it has something to do with the blowing up of my Power Supply Unit a few weeks back. I hate the feeling of being broke.

AND I SWEAR, from this year onwards, I will never be broke ever again. Cause being broke, SUCKS!

Coco the Cat, Boredom Kills

I reached home in the evening about a few hours ago and as usual, I was greeted by Coco who was lazing on the swing (yet again). I opened the gate, and as I sat at the doorway to kiwi my shoes, she sat beside me patiently for me to enter the house (say awwwwwww).

Photobucket
Whatcha looking at?

I think cats are cutest when you get a picture of them looking intently at something.

And the most boring shots are those of Coco trying to get some shut eye.

One Final Step before the Traffic Police Test

I failed Stage 8.01 miserably. Haha! I got 36 points! I've got a lot of demerits for late checking of blind spots and failed to check sideroads. Haiz. I'll try harder next week. I'll put up the best wayang show Man have ever seen.

Photobucket

And finally, I'm starting work tomorrow! Wooohoo! $7/hr to facilitate the teaching of Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Flash. I took whatever that comes my way cause I'm broke! hahaha. Cheerio!

County Clare

I racked my brain(s) left right centre for this one and so I shall deliver. Hopefully.

Let's see... Where to go for the next holiday? Try County Clare. It is located on the west coast of Ireland, northwest of the River Shannon. It might not be the perfect destination for most of us Singaporeans who are more inclined to modernisation and shopping, rather, County Clare is more of a place to admire the creation of God. There's the stunning Cliffs of Moher, the peculiar Burren and the Ballyea Waterfall. Of course, those are not all.

Photobucket
Cliffs of Moher

Because County Clare isn't a city, accommodation comes in the form of houses or how should I put it, holiday homes. There is private lodging in the Aran Islands, County Clare, farmhouses in County Galway and many other similar houses that you could rent out for a day.

Photobucket
Cliffs of Moher

This is unlike Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur where your choices are limited to hotels or residences. So, if wish to experience the slower paced life, give County Clare a visit. Or perhaps, consider a holiday to Ireland.

Coco the Cat, on the Swing

Coco's hogging the swing nowadays. If she's not sitting on it just chilling the day away, she'll be dozing off there. And if we're sitting on the swing, she'll meow and prowl around the swing probably motioning us to buzz off from her favourite spot. heheh.

Photobucket
Coco putting up one of her many poses.

Photobucket
Trying to act cute.

Photobucket
And here's the ultimate. Curling herself up and looking at the camera!

Babies Need A Place to Play With Food

What's with the title Mr Wise Guy?

Yeah, it looks kinda odd, but hey, I've got a message to deliver and the title to my message has got to be clear. Hmmm, I wonder why I'm so concerned. lolx. Okay back to the topic, babies need a place to play with food.

Babies are messy eaters (alright, maybe I'm stereotyping. Maybe your 6 mths old kid eats with a fork in one hand and a sharp cutting knife in another. Who cares?). And when I say messy, it is really damn messy. I saw babies drenched in curry once at Komala's. I saw babies turn over a perfect banana split at Swensen's. I wouldn't say I have a way to stop these young homo sapiens, but instead, let's facilitate this mess by providing a place for them to operate from!

High chairs are like the THE place where it all gets started. I can safely say most fast food outlets have high chairs ready for their patrons. Heck, even the family-run seafood restaurant down at Kembangan has high chairs!

Oh, and some high chairs are nice to eat too!

Meet my cat, Coco!

I've got a cat. Her name is Coco. Some of us in the family calls her Coco, some call her Cocorina, sometimes I call her Rinah and last but not least, there are the odd occasion we call her Manja, or Manjen (more about that in a later post). She's about 1 year plus. Well, we don't exactly know when she was born as we adopted her from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or SPCA for short. So, the workers gave us that estimation.

From what we know, she is a Siamese mixed cat and in excellent condition physically (not sure mentally). We've adopted her for close to 4 months and has adapted well to her surroundings. Any professionals in the house to confirm what breed my cat is? Cause none of us in the family are. haha. So yeah enough of talking, here's my cat.

Photobucket
Coco loves sitting on dad's beach chair. She'll sit here all day long if not for food or toilet...

Photobucket
She rarely sits still for the camera. But well, I manage to catch Coco.

Well, why did it take 4 months before I post pictures of my cat? Gee, I'm not too sure. But as I start tearing my hair out for blog content, I find talking about my cat is much more satisfying than bitching about celebrities, friends and happenings on the SMRT. I don't create sin for myself, but instead, derive pleasure sharing with others the joys of having a pet. :)

Coco's cute isn't she?

Why I Would Seriously Consider Signing Up for Al-Jazeera

No No, I'm not a terrorist. I never am and I never will. Al-Jazeera is just a middle eastern cable station and they're better connected to the relevant people than the other cable stations. Just look at yesterday's Germany vs Turkey game. Just before the hour mark, the screen froze and for about four minutes, I stared at that unmoving image. Like what the hell?

Photobucket
Al-Jazeera Rocks!

Shouldn't they cover up that failure in transmission by moving on to the studio or at least, some host explaining the situation to us here? Haiz... Fortunately I didn't pay the SGD$20 (w/o GST) that Moonhub demanded for us to watch Euro. heheh.

Al-Jazeera on the other hand had better transmission (provided we believe what Channelnewsasia had reported here).
It wasn't just Singapore viewers. All over the world, fans were cut off from the live feed by the storm in Vienna, where the international broadcast centre for Euro 2008 is located. Only Swiss channel SRG and middle eastern cable station Al Jazeera were unaffected; the former had direct access to a feed inside the stadium in Basel, Switzerland.

That rocks! I'm signing up for Al-Jazeera tomorrow dawg!

The Demise of the Mailbox

When was the last time you checked your mailbox? Yesterday? Today? A few hours ago? No, I'm not referring to your hotmail INBOX nor am I referring to your Yahoo, Gmail, etc etc. What I'm referring to is snail mail, mails that are sent as hardcopy.

I don't get much mails from the mailbox nowadays. Most of the things I need to know is transmitted via the net and all I do is to click to the relevant webpage, and voila! Magic! Even soccer results can be found on the net. I don't even need to get a copy of today's newspaper to read the headlines. How powerful the internet is and it helps to save the trees too! More mails, more trees to be cut down. Pity pity.

I don't see why mailboxes should be old and boring. They should be cheery and bright as they are seen as newsbearers, containers that determine our fate, our destiny (and our bills). heheh. It should present even the most undesirable mails in the most jovial way. Well, its more of a nice to have than a necessity. I see beautiful mailboxes as the simple joys of life.

Hop on over to Mailboxixchange if you intend to get one!

Passed my Riding Theory Test! Practical Test Next Week!

Woohoo! I passed my Riding Theory Test! Actually it is kinda belated news. Passed it on Tuesday night and I was super ecstatic! haha. Finally I can get my life back on track. Not having an objective in your life really makes life meaningless. Without RTT, I couldn't proceed with my next lesson, and as I can't proceed with my next lesson, I just have to while my time away waiting for the test date. And that brings about stupid stuff like blowing up your Power Supply Unit, taking countless pictures of your cat, going out with the missus, etc.

Photobucket

But after I passed the test, I couldn't immediately book my next lesson. What delayed things further was the fact that the Traffic Police counter was closed. And as a result, I couldn't get my Provisional Driving License. Had to wait till today when I'm passing by the area, to get it. Oh ya! And good thing is, my Practical Test is on the 7th July! ONLY NEXT WEEK!

Nyehehehehehe...

I'll be riding a bike down the streets of SG in no time baby.

Shortly After Our Bangkok Trip

Okay, so I went to Bangkok last week with a few friends, spent approximately $700+ on everything from food, shopping, accomodation, entertainment, transport, etc. and now I'm officially broke! haha. But broke as we are, we're planning to go overseas yet again. This time, when we're all grown up and have the spending power needed to visit Europe and beyond.

Photobucket
http://www.amsterdam.info/pictures/

One of my friends is already thinking of Amsterdam. The thought of staying in a hotel in Amsterdam terrifies me. Not because of anything in particular but the price! OMG. It is so wayyyy beyond what I can afford at the moment and I don't think I can afford going there at all. Everything is in Euro, and that just doublifies everything! But who knows, when we grow up, it'll all be small pieces. haha.

And I was thinking, why not we stay over at someone's place? That just brings me to hotels in Barcelona which are also in Euro, but I've got an aunt who lives there! Maybe we can do a homestay or something. heheh. Amount spend on accomodation is eliminated! Furthermore, I'm sure she'll be damn happy to have Singaporean guest for the first time! heheh. With zero dollars on hotel, we'll have more money to spend on eating and shopping!

Photobucket

Or how about New York? With the dollar weakening (and my online shopping bill going up!), its cheaper to head to the US of A. I've always wanted to dance on the Statue of Liberty much like MJ did in his Black or White music video. Ok, that was totally irrelevant.

But all in all, I'm sure we're going for a holiday soon enough. What matters most is that we get to see the culture in other countries and get to know how they run their daily lives. And not forgetting, shop till we drop!

Dang, I regretted not buying more Polo-Ts from Bangkok!!! ARRRGGGHHH!!!

My Negative Experience with Venture Era

I was looking for a Part-Time Job (and I still am. Any lobangs anyone?!) for the whole of last week reason being my reserves has depleted to a red alert level after my lovely Bangkok trip. I was just looking around, going out for interviews, meeting different people, and when I got home, I came across an Ad at a popular local website much similar to this:
I'm looking for permanent part-timers or school leavers to fill up positions as Marketing Executives or as Project Assistants.

Job scope will be pretty simple with ushering of guests in showcases, providing assistance in presentations, and also customer service.

Friendly and outgoing youths are gladly welcomed.

Timing: Flexible hrs, plan your own schedule.
Pay: $500/week
Age: 17-24 years old
I was damn excited lah. Who wouldn't? Just usher people to showcases, provide customer service, for $500/week? Wahlau ehhhh... My dream job lah liddat. Furthermore, I can plan my own schedule. That's great! Perfect for me as I need time to further my motorbike lessons too!

So, I smsed the bugger who prominently displayer his/her/it number and arranged for an interview. I was so dumb at that point not asking the full details of the company, where it is located, what's my jobscope, how will I be paid, the company name etc. But what the person said was that the company is involved in Nanotechnology. And I was like WHOA! Cool shite.

Soon enough, I was on my way to Eunos MRT. Waited there for a full 10 minutes. And got directed to another person who will show me around the company. GREAT, at the last minute, you get your pawns to do the job. Professionalism indeed. And at the back of my head, I should be going for an interview, not exactly a tour of a company.

I shall not say much about what happened afterwards. I was rather appalled by the highly misleading ad that was up. And furthermore, I felt rather manipulated. In the first place, what I wanted was a job, and this is definitely not what I want. I've been to MLMs before, Luxor, Amway, N21, etc., and have yet to see a family member or close friend excel in that industry.

Haiz...

Next time, when you see this kind of ad, don't even bother asking the person. If you want to know more about what happened during the meeting, please comment and perhaps I'll write it tomorrow. :)

A Joke from Mao Mao via MSN

A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath, and stopped centimeters from a shop window.

For a second everything went quiet in the cab, then the driver said, "Look mate, don't ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!"

The passenger apologized and said, "I didn't realize that a little tap would scare you so much." The driver replied, "Sorry, it's not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver - I've been driving a funeral van for the last 25 years.

My Suzuki Swift Averages 14KM/L

When dad initially got the Suzuki Swift 1.5L about a month plus ago, we weren't exactly excited or awed by its performance. Alright, dad wasn't so much of a speed enthusiast, so he didn't cared much. What he cared most was the fuel consumption. With all the hype about rising fuel prices (now at a staggering 140 dollars a barrel), hybrid cars, and CNG, what we needed most is a fuel efficient car.

When we just bought it, the Swift wasn't actually fuel economical. The car had a built in KM/L indicator built into the dashboard, and was averaging about 12KM/L. But when the weeks passed, and after the first servicing was done, the average improved to about 13.8 - 14.5 KM/L. Not so bad compared to our HUGE Matrix at approximately 8-10KM/L.

Dad was keen on getting the Toyota Prius, this super green car. But there are concerns on whether the car can actually accelerate quickly (dad has a tendency to weave in and out of traffic to get ahead). I told him that electric cars should accelerate faster than normal cars as electric motors can produce quite an amount of torque based on my experience in robotics as I've seen small motors having the ability to pull a man with little electricity.

Juicedhybrids.com is a useful website to get more info and spare parts to improve your green car. If you're super green, there are products on the site that enables the car to ONLY run on electric as seen here. That is, if you got an electric car in the first place. lolx.

There are also fuel saving products that can help you improve your mileage. This isn't actually the cheap fuel saving magnets that you can find normally, but something much more promising. And finally, to top it off, why not get green cleaners for your car? That'll round off your green movement then.

On another note, dad just mounted a kerb using his front bodywork while parking. Have a look below.

Photobucket

Dang, that just sucks... Hate it when that happens. Oh well, as long as it wasn't me who did it, I'll not get a scolding. haha. Drive safely guys!

Let's Shop for Light Fixtures!

Seriously, I need to replace the light fixtures in my house. It's so freakin plain, and has been there since we moved in (what, like 10++ years?) and you can imagine how backward the design is as compared to the ones you see at Farreys.com.

The site offers a myriad of light fixtures, both indoor and outdoor. And if you prefer the grandest(is there such a word?) form of lighting, the chandelier, you'll find it at the site. Dad once bought a $1,000+ chandelier from the once glorious IMM. It was the centrepiece of our living room for years and was only replaced when the structure got too rusty and was BER (beyond economic repair). Every year, a week before hari raya, I'd be slaving away on the chandelier cleaning the crystal BALLS which hung from its arms. Yeah, all 30++ of it. And I'll be the one and only person staring at those balls everytime the chandelier was lit. Such great feeling of satisfaction...

Lolx.

If you're the picky type, and prefer to browse by brands, you say it, they have it. Everything is there.

In my room, I've got this white ceiling fixture, which traps beetles, and any other insect which is attracted to it. My siblings and I when we were younger, could hear the poor insects flying about trying to escape just before we sleep. It was like our bedtime song, and I still remember hearing the frantic buzz of their wings when they hit the hot fluorescent tubes. After a while, they'll get bored, and eventually die.

Sadist.

Ok so, Farreys.com! The way to go! That place is wicked!

ShopWiki.com - A Whole Different Online Shopping Experience

I'm not sure if you guys find it enjoyable to shop online, be it the shops without the carts on blogspot, shops with carts at ebay or if you haven't tried online shopping, try hopping over to www.shopwiki.com. I don't guarantee you it'll be the best shopping experience, but hey, its a worth a try.

Shopwiki.com works differently than other stores that you find on the net. In fact, I don't think it should be a called a shop in the first place. What the website does is it finds every store on the internet by crawling all over the place, very much like google, and listing it on the website. Everything is categorised systematically. Click here to have a taste on how they are categorised, and you'll be amazed by the level of interactivity the site boasts.

Its as if the site is talking to you and recommending the products to your needs. To suit your budget, there is a feature that filters the products according to price and brand. Useful for rainy days. heheh. My jaw dropped to find this webpage explaining the various graphics card specifications. Like which store will explain the various products out on the market to you? Well, Shopwiki.com does.

Cool stuff. Definitely worth a visit!

14 Days, 14 Nights

Oh well, here I am again, back after 14 days of "Yeah, I'll update my blog later". It seems that procrastination got the better of me and what ensues is 14 days of non-updating, visitorship down to a mere 10 per day, and no revenue at all from adsense. lolx. Nuffnang hadn't even approached me to put up and ads!

But that's not the point. Making money from blogging is a bonus and I've yet to go serious. Well, I was at one point of time, but I had difficulty coming up with original content. No original content == no repeat visitors. Well who cares, I've got a blog, I'm starting my part-time work soon, and I wanna be happy.

What happened within the 14 days? In a nutshell, there was the bangkok trip, my power supply unit blew up (yeah, Coolermaster 430w) and I had to return a cat that mom took from Farmway. See, nothing much happened! hahaha.

Now, let's see whether I'll update tomorrow. Hmmmm....

Stuck

I've been real busy these past few days. Busy to the point where I don't have much time to myself. Other than the occasional few minutes that I get to do some iBanking, burning CDs and download some songs, most of the time was spent on my Class 2B lessons (which I can't continue until the 23rd June when I've passed my Riding Theory Test), tending to my 2 cats (yes! Two cats!) and spending time with my lovely parents.

I barely had time to tend to my Lyrics Website nor this MrWiseGuyBlog. If you were to have a look at my Lyrics Website, it was updated quite a long long time ago and I'm wondering if it is worth keeping a Lyrics website. Adsense isn't actually working for TheLyricsHQ, and after 7 days, it raked in only about 50cents. Compare that with this blog which does about $1++, with free hosting courtesy of blogger.

With that in mind, I'm toying with the thoughts of opening a picture blog featuring my two cats. Who knows, their cute faces might be the next big thing in the blog-o-sphere. heheh. And I get to earn some money through Adsense which can be used back into their cat food and toys. Perhaps get some media attention and get Friskies to sponsor them or something. arhhh... Such big dreams for small little things. heheh.

Just keep a lookout for the cat blog ya. I'll get mom to help me with the postings. heheh.

Wordpress to Blogger Migration

After quite a lengthy hiatus from blogging and the blog-o-sphere as a whole, I'm back with a vengeance! Alright, there isn't much to be read from my humble blog. Just some random ramblings and the occasional news report to blog about. heheh. But still, it is my own blog. oh yeah oh yeah!

Alright, you might have noticed that I've migrated my blogging platform to blogger now. Though the blogger platform is different, the url www.mrwiseguyblog.com stays and I'm glad it did! Or else, I'll lose all my loyal readers who log in everyday with hopes of reading something intellectually stimulating. :P

It is indeed possible to migrate from wordpress to Blogger (like duh). Some might wonder why I did it. Well, I did it so that I can save on hosting costs. Besides, you can keep your old posts too! Just google the text "migrate from wordpress to blogger" and you'll find some useful programs that could help you out. fyi, I used blogsync to do it.

If you're wondering why you can't import ALL the posts at once, its because Blogger has a limit to the number of posts you can put up in a day. Anything more than 50 posts will require human intervention. You know, the feature where you have to key in the text as shown in the picture....

Oh, and I just noticed how bad my command of the English is after reading through.
