A Reason to Need the Girlfriend

When the whole of the micro blog-o-sphere community is bitching about their partners, or listing down the various negativities of having a boy/girlfriend, I for one, am in the middle. Not that I am totally against the idea, nor am I totally FOR the idea, I'm like undecided...

It is not a necessity to have a partner. Though, in Islam, everyone is encouraged to get married after they have gone through puberty. Ok, so it is necessary to get a partner. Or is it? Ahhh dang this is so controversial.

Any I've got a nice comic to laugh along to. Put on a smile on your face! :>

Coco the Cat, Poser

Coco is so grown up now. What more with Cika around, she has somewhat taken the role of mom to Cika and monitors Cika's movements whenever possible. Today was kinda funny. Cika was locked in sis's room after the wind blew the door shut. haha. Was only released after dad and I returned from Friday prayers.

Cika the Cat, Rak-Rak

Cika went nuts over a 'rak-rak' while my brother was assembling it, and even before it was complete, Cika gave the thumbs (errr...) paws up to the furniture! Pardon my poor cameraing skills. Need some time getting used to the new camera. :> Enjoy.

Traffic Increased 5-Fold Thanks To....

I was wondering, how come there's a sudden increase in traffic out of the blue. Its not like I post something pornographic or of particular interest to most males. Nevertheless, soon found out via statcounter that I've got a lot of traffic thanks to a few websites who listed my post 'The Soldier's Hurdles During the Fasting Month'. They are as follows:

http://www.myapplemenu.com/singapore/
http://singaporedaily.net/
http://intelligentsingaporean.wordpress.com/

Would like to extend my thanks to the webmasters/bloggers/whoever that posted my link in the website. Thank you very much...

Sunday I give you off.

The Soldier's Hurdles During the Fasting Month

The roasting effect induced by the sun's rays, coupled with the already dehydrated state I was in yesterday, inspired me to write this entry. I've yet to write about or share my experience of fasting whilst serving the nation. So here goes...

I was in the Singapore Armed Forces for 1 year and 10 months, enlisting in July 06 and ORDing in May 08. The most bittersweet memories of physical endurance and pushing to the limits was during my days at SISPEC. SISPEC isn't exactly one of the toughest courses in the SAF, but it still was one of a kind. heheh.

So, it was the Basic Section Leader's Course. And the Standard Obstacle Course was one of my OC's favourite training programme. He made us do the SOC with clean fatigue + pull-ups everyday before lunch. It didn't help the situation too that I was in Hotel Company and the SOC grounds were just behind our building.

I remembered fondly one of the occasions when the Chief PTI took us for SOC. He made us do one complete SOC, and when we thought it was over, he marched us to the low wall, and made us do several reps. Thrice in SBO and twice with rifle only. I tell you... It was hell. Your hands are trembling, you don't sweat because there's no more fluid in your body, and you can feel your forehead boiling. It was hot hot hot! I'm not too sure if it was intentional, but it was 1800 hours and he was still pushing us hard. That day, we had a late break fast.

There were the odd occasions when I had to prematurely break fast. One of those days was when we had the compass course. The terrain was steep and hilly and as you would predict, we lost a lot of fluid through sweat.

It all started when I felt that my lips were drying up and my hands were trembling. These symptoms were rather normal before and I start to get used to it a few days into the fasting month. But what came next was rather surprising. My breathing became irregular, I had difficulty catching my breath, the grass turned purple, and my legs turned jelly. The most significant occurence was I lost my sense of hearing temporarily. I couldn't hear the shouts from my buddy to hurry up, and all I could hear was my own breathing. My shallow breaths, clamouring for whatever oxygen there is in the air. I knew I was going to faint, and held myself up long enough to sit down.

I tried to focus, but still couldn't. Mind over body? Nah... It isn't possible if you don't even have a working mind! Hahaha... I immediately gulped down water from my bottle, ate 2 packets of candy bars, and felt as if I had wings. lolx! The recovery period was near instant, and I completed the compass course with much ease.

I think I had half a dozen premature breakfasts during the course of my training.

So anyways, serving the nation while fasting isn't always about premature breaking fast. There are some moments where you break fast at odd moments. I was the section's heavy gunner, and I carried a SAW in section movements. Most of the time, I was the last man, providing cover fire to the rest of my buddies.

We were waiting for orders to charge at that time. Everyone formed up in a line, and gearing up for the charge. Whilst the rest were busy counting down to the charge, I was counting down the seconds to breaking fast. hahaha. My right finger was at the trigger, while my left was holding up my bottle. heheh. The shitty thing was, the command CHARGE was given at the moment of break fast. lolx. I had to gulp down some water, and dropped my bottle. At the end of it, I lay prone, opened up a packet of candy bar, and had some much needed carbohydrates. Even had the cheek to rip open a packet of Noodles while waiting for the next charge. lolx.

Fasting in the army isn't that bad. See it as a positive once in a lifetime experience, and you'll laugh at all these when you've ORDed. Like ME! :>

Selamat Berbuka my Muslim Friends!

Blistering Barnacles! Bursting Blisters on Video!

Oh man...

Everyone hates blisters. That soft squeegy thingy that you get after continuous irritation to your skin, just seem to hurt like forever. Oh how tempting it is to burst those blisters to get some pain relief! I've done it a couple of times. Back in SISPEC, BMT, you get these more or less everytime you put on new boots for a march. And when its all over, everyone tends to their wounds...

Its Getting Hot in Here... So Take Off All Your Clothes!

It was kinda hot today and I could feel the searing heat whilst riding to school. Got my sunglasses but that didn't help much as to just prevent glare and whatnots from irritating my ride. Nevertheless, it is a welcome change from the rainy season which saw rain every other day and my raincoat was hung out to dry nearly everyday.

Anyways, I'll be having a short break from school next week. But no school doesn't mean no study! Gotta mug all the way for my math and digital electronics quiz or else I'll be losing bout 30% of the marks. So yeah, gotta chiong! Lead the way! All the way!

Laboratory Report L213

I just submitted my laboratory report today, and it felt like a huge load was lifted off my shoulders. Although the report doesn't mean the difference between life and death in the university, getting it off means I can finally concentrate on other things such as editing my group's technical communication short write-up.

We had quite a fruitful discussion today, having gone through the chat session with much careful thought and work distribution. It was well-planned and I think we hit the nail right through the board. I'm fortunate to have such diligent team mates who want to excel in their studies.

On another note, there's no school tomorrow!!! Wooohooo!!!

Accident at Jurong West St 75

There was an accident at the intersection near my house yesterday night. I was busy doing my report when out of the blue, I heard tyres screeching and a loud bang followed shortly after. Instinctively, I spun around and looked out the window to see a motorbike (Yamaha R1) on its side, with its rider lying still in the middle of the road. Not good.

It collided with the right side of a car (Toyota Picnic), and the rider seems to be okay as I saw him raise his arm to indicate that its not life-threatening. But still, you could see the disfigurement in his left ankle and shin. He was bleeding from the heel, and his feet was slowly drowning in his own pool of blood. Other than that, his upper body seems functional and he could turn his head to look from side to side.

I took some pictures, but decide not to post it out of respect for the poor rider. I hope he's doing okay and regained the use of his left leg. My prayers are with you bro. Anyways, nice bike and nice helmet. You got a nice colour scheme going on there.

That accident sent a chill down my spine, as myself, a rider, could be in a similar situation in a heartbeat. How good you are as a rider, you are just a sitting duck on the roads out there. Be it due to your own misjudgment, miscalculation, oversight or just plain laziness, the odds of motorcycles getting hit is lower than the odds of picking out a ten cent coin from your wallet. I pray everyday before I rev my Honda Wave 125, to keep me safe, ensure a smooth journey, and most importantly, I visualise the route that I'll be taking so as to avoid unnecessary detours.

I'm thinking of getting a high cut shoe to protect my feet during my rides. Maybe I'll be heading to Beach Road very very soon.... Ride safe my fellow riders!

When Songs Connect with You

There are those odd moments when you (a Jazz or Blues lover), find yourself having a connection with metal. Not the magnetic nature, rather, you feel that the song expresses whatever that is in you that you can't put it into words. Its like an unexplained thing that happened and you just get goosebumps the moment it is played. Well... That happened for me.

And to think that this song has no lyrics in it, make it even more meaningful. As a man of few words (yeah right), this song suits me well!

And I kinda love the drums. When I grow up and earn my first billion, I'll buy myself a drum set and beat away to Iron Maiden. Heheh. Anyway, the song below is Raise the Hammer by Hammerfall. Woooooo... Intense, but soothing... in a way.

Relationship Problems? Listen to YOUR Heart

How often do you hear this advice; "Listen to your heart," when you ask for relationship advice from your friends?

That doesn't help much does it? Your heart is in a million pieces, okay, perhaps the number of pieces it is shattered into is linearly proportional to the number of years or memories that the two of you had, or perhaps, you can plot the number of memories (let it be x) against t (time) and differentiate the equation to get the gradient in order to derive the intensity of anguish [Prof Sundarajan, 2008], and there you have a 'useful' piece of advice. To listen to your heart.
.
.
.
.
.

Listen to a shattered heart? The only thing that it could muster is to probably convince the brain to react negatively.

So bottom line is, NEVER listen to your heart. Use your God-given brain to think, and look for constructive evidence that could support the reason to either mend things, or go separate ways for good. Make a table with 2 columns. One being the positive memories & positive characteristics. The other with negative memories & negative traits. Then, fill the columns as truthfully as you can. With that, you probably have a 70% of making an informed decision that you won't regret later in life.

Have a laugh, and move on with life. Like they say, there are many fishes in the pond.

Be A True Muslim, Follow the Sunnah

I get trivial questions all the time. I wonder if people find my answers to be worthy of being called THE answer. Oh well, I don't call myself Mr Wise Guy for nothing... Here's a question posed by one of my many followers.

When You Cannot Tahan What Others are Saying

A handful of my friends complain and whine, saying they cannot tahan (to endure without repugnance) another party's antics, the meaningless conversations or the downright criticisms. True, the other party might not mean it and even use those criticisms as an excuse for jokes. I for one, do not agree with straightforward criticisms in front of the masses. If I were to use those 'genre' of jokes, I'd make sure the people around the person is either close to him, or been friends for a long time.

This is rampant especially with my current friends in school. For the first few weeks, I was in their clique, having lunch together and stuff. But I cannot tahan anymore and left the group. Was alone for a week or so, but soon moved on to more fruitful friendships with 2 or 3 individuals. If you cannot tahan them, just angkat kaki and jalan (leave for greener pastures)...

Oh ya, and to my friends who're going through a tough time, stay strong, stay focused. Life is too short to mull over 'small' stuff. Cry, and MOVE ON!

The End of the Rainbow...

I always wondered what lies at the end of the rainbow. It seems to stretch from one end of the horizon to the other, like a semi-circle. What lies at the end? Perhaps there is a god created nozzle that spurts the Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet combination. Or perhaps... There might be something more interesting... Something controversial...

Google's Web Browser, Chrome, is Speedy!

Hey guys,

I just downloaded Google Chrome in its beta version here

First glance, it is speedy, and the fact that I'm blogging from Google Chrome means its definitely 100% compatible with blogger. So no issues. Chrome definitely loads HWZ faster than IE or Firefox and I see great potential in this browser.

Try out the beta version of Google Chrome and feel the difference!

Shopping for Bike Stuff at Ah Boy

Sometime back in late August, I mentioned I'll be sharing with you the stuff I bought from Ah Boy Bike Shop over at Kelantan Lane. Well, it was supposed to be the following post, but I kinda procrastinated and had trouble finding a camera to take the pictures. On top of that, photoshopping them and cropping it to make it look presentable. hehehe. My apologies.

And so I went to Ah Boy Bike Shop on a rainy day...

HOW TO GET TO AH BOY BIKE SHOP

Photobucket

The red star represents Ah Boy Bike Shop and its kinda hard to miss. Just look out for the small police post or the multi-storey carpark and you won't miss it. There are several other bike shops around the area too! If you are going by public transport, I'd suggest you take a train to Bugis and walk. It'll take about 10minutes to get there.

They're not like the typical shop where you'll be greeted and ask you if you need anything. Rather, they're too busy tending to calls, old time customers and the like. I was kinda hesitant to buy considering their poor customer relation skills.

But all turned well when I approached one of their staff and he helped me out by choosing a raincoat that suits my budget. One thing I learned was to state your budget clearly to them so they can recommend you something. Everything in the shop is kept in storage and if you fancy something, they'll get you a new one from deep inside the chambers.

Turns out, they're a friendly bunch. Like there is a brotherhood feeling going on as bikers. heheh. Helmets are displayed prominently at the store front, so it was kinda easy. Just pick one, ask for the price, and pay.

My raincoat was priced at $40, and helmet, at $75. Somehow, after much haggling and negotiation, I got both at $90. I'm not sure if that was a steal, but it seems like a fair price to me. And after riding in the rain for countless of times, I think I need a mini-raincoat for my shoes too!

The Things People Think about Me

Hey hey... This topic suddenly popped out of nowhere and I think after countless 'unrelated to my life' entries, this should be a good topic to begin with.

What are the misconceptions people have on me? What misleads the majority into thinking that I am what they think I am? Since I am the person who they have a misconception on, perhaps I can answer these questions.

Firstly... Most think that I'm righteous, morally correct or easily said, pious or religiously inclined. It is flattering, but I am definitely not 100%. I'd safely say, 10% is true, and the remaining 85%, you make a guess. I miss prayers once in a while. Truthfully, I miss them when I'm outside, playing games, or too engrossed with the current activity I'm involved in. Oh well... There's an inifinite room for improvement for myself. heheh. I'm quite open in terms of religious belief.

Secondly... People perceive that the moment I reach home, I'll be at my table, mugging away. Lolx. That is so not true. The moment I reach home, I either sleep, eat, or use the computer for reasons other than studying. I don't do tutorials. lolx!!! Ask my poly buddies lah... Out of 14 tutorials, I'll only attend 3, and do only 2 tutorials.

Thirdly... People think I'm stuck up. Okay, there is truth in this myth because I tend to keep my thoughts to myself and can be quiet most of the time. But like all people who are considered stuck-up, we can be quite a conversationalist at times. Its all up to the clique.

Fourthly... Perceived as a master of all trades. Lolx! That is definitely not true. I'm just human and can never be a master in all disciplines. Jack of all trades? Perhaps. But there are some disciplines that I need major improvement such as the emotional quotient, psychology, business and perhaps biology and medicine.

Fifth... I'm stubborn. Okay, I am stubborn only if that party cannot explain to me effectively the reason for choosing another solution, or perhaps, the solution that the other party has, is done that way because that's the way things are and we shouldn't change it. Lolx. For the latter part, I'm trying to be flexible with it as I go on to NTU as there are somethings which you can't understand and have to follow the way things as it is. So yeah, if you have a better idea, explain to me why, how, what, and you'll soon find out I'm not as hard-headed as you think I am. heh

There are a lot of other misconceptions, and some will never be discussed due to its sensitive nature. However wise Mr Wise Guy gets, he'll never be the WISEST guy on Earth. Have fun, and do not take life so seriously. Else, you'll die young!

Home for 2 Hours

Its 1130 and I'm home!

Can't take it man, there's no place to study in school in private, and there'll always be somebody who'll stumble upon me. heh. So I've decided to come home and do some preperations for my next lessons.

Tattoo "I Love my Pet!"

I woke up to the meows of Coco, who somehow has diarrhoea today. Her stools are wet and little and you cannot see the glow in her eyes anymore. The thing about cats is, they can tell you that something is wrong with them, but tricky part is, you gotta guess and find out what she's trying to tell us. Oh well... I love Coco and Cika.
