Honda Wave Suspension and Brake Pad Change

Okay, this entry is a long overdue one... Nevertheless, its still quite relevant.

So anyways, my buddy and I crossed the border just recently with the intention of fixing our lovely bikes. My suspension was in a bad state (this I can tell from the huge 'thud' I hear whenever I go over a hump) and my brakes were worn out (brake pedal needs to move approximately 20cm before brakes kick in). Safety is top priority and thus, I set out on this arduous journey. Vrooom vrooom went my Honda Wave!

The bike shop wasn't far from City Square. It is less than a kilometre away from the shopping centre and we were fortunate that the shop was rather empty except for a single Yamaha X-1 undergoing a thorough check. My buddy called up his mechanic and soon enough, after fixing his bike, the mechanic went on to mine.

I was quite shy at first having to ask so much to be done on a cheap Honda Wave. Its like doing up a Cherry QQ, adding Brembo brake discs, nitrous and stuff. heheh. But I soon opened up after the friendly mechanic suggested this setup and that setup and what is best for my bike. He doesn't seem to be a sneaky chap and I got the best suspension money can buy.

Photobucket

The mechanic had to remove the rear tyres to get to the suspension brackets.

Photobucket

A rear end view of my bike with one suspension removed.

Photobucket

Not only the rear tyres were removed, he also had to remove the body.

Photobucket

The brake pads fall out as soon as the tyres were removed from the axle. The brake pad I was holding was insanely thin and I could see the shiny metal innards. The other pad wasn't that badly worn out though.

Photobucket

Dad always reminded me to check the sprockets. It looks okay... You can tell from the sharp teeth that looks like a peak. If the teeth looks like a plateau, time to change it.

For RM130, I got myself : -
1) A pair of Showa Suspensions
2) Rear drum brake pads
3) Installation

The mechanic was quite attentive to my preferences. Told him I needed a suspension setup to support two people, but at the same time, not to make it so hard when I'm riding alone. So yeah, somehow he did it and I'm one happy biker!

And now, when I've got enough cash, I'll go back to fix the body. Got a quotation from the mechanic it costs some RM120. We'll see how it goes aite.

Happy Deepavali

Happy Deepavali!

Anyways, it has been a 'great' Deepavali for me. Stayed at home, studied a bit of Math and watched a small part of MI:2 on Channel 5. Wished I was at the Serangoon party where all the Indian nationals were. So.... Yeah, another day wasted just like that. Nothing exciting happened, nothing thrilling. Am such a slacker! Wanted to go SP to study, but the weather wasn't being nice to me.

There's school tomorrow. 3 hours of lecture, and nothing more! Wooohooo!

I've got here the DoTA song. DoTA short for 'Defence of The Ancients'. I know, I know, it is such an old game but who cares? I just like the stone cold face the guy gave when he got scolded. heheh.

Deep inside me, there's the undying love for Techno which I always try to subdue.

Daisysue

When Mrwiseguy approached me to be his guest blogger, my heart expanded as if it touched my rib cage. GOSH.... is this for real? (pinched my arm!) oouuch! me blogging? Thanks mrwiseguy.(sigh)! what to write?

I recite a prayer for blessing

AMIN.....

To begin ,i love reading magazines, reader's digest, on line straits times and blog hop (occasionally). To expand my 'world tour' i watch tv on Discovey channel and Globe treckker. Opportunity to travel is a luxury for me(sour grape), hence by watching these channels I'm contented (cry baby!!!). Hallmark channel for Oprah and The Nanny(chicken soup for me). MTV ( gosh i wish i can dance!!) Nora Jones... where are you?

I love outdoor activities too (for God's sake i need to chill out also), cycling at East Coast Park, swimming at the public swimming pools and hiking. I've been to the tree top walk at MacRitchie and Bukit Candu which is linked to Kent Ridge. I also hiked Bukit Timah twice. My outdoor activities do not cost much. It must be free and cheap... (mei yo cian mei quan xi mah!) No money never mind.... also can enjoy life, if you know how.

Studying in School Part I

Hear ye! Hear ye!

The time has come for us to say hello to the exam fever! Everyone is mugging, and even in the midst of mugging, one can't help but take a few pictures of the scenery. I've got some shots here while studying a few weeks back.

That building... is not my school.

Photobucket

And that building over there, is not my school either! That's NIE! The only place where the locals dominate in population. It is surrounded by a moat-like road and sits atop a small hill, making it almost impenetrable. The trees planted along the slopes are actually well camouflaged machine gun nests.

So anyways, that was what I could see out the window from the desk I was working from. All work, and no eat makes Jack a hungry boy. So my buddy and I headed to one of those food centres in school. And what I saw surprised me! Here in fiercely 'patriotic' Singapore, the staff showcased their undying patriotism, in a rather, unique way.

Photobucket

I shall not comment. A China flag in Singapore soil? What is happening....

Discovery Channel, I Love the World

I don't watch much teevee, but when those rare moments do arrive, I tune in to channels such as Discovery (Power Zone, Dirty Jobs, Boys Toys, Man vs Wild), National Geographic (something of equivalent), Star World (Simpsons, Friends) and Channel 5 (The Noose, News, Movies). There's not much interesting going on in tv except for this Discovery Channel commercial. There's something about this commercial which tickles my brain and make me smile. I'm not sure why. But after reading through tons of comments on youtube, it seems that I'm not the only one.

It makes you wanna.... Break into a song?

Mini-Hell is Over

Hadn't been blogging much the past two weeks. Blame it on school.

I had my Physics submission on Monday, presentation of my report on Tuesday and I just finished Data Structure quiz a few hours ago. Fuuuuh... Been a tiring one especially with the level that I am setting myself to perform. But its okay. Blast through these 3 years, and I'll be getting my 2nd Class Honours in no time.

So, anyways, due to the tight schedule I'll be having thanks to school, I'll be getting a guest writer on this blog who will keep the posts coming and of course, more pics of my cats Coco and Cika! The guest blogger will be someone very very close to me, and I hope the person will have as much fun blogging as I am now.

I'll just let the person introduce him/herself and have fun reading our coming posts!

My Own Workstation

Dad is quite a handyman. He can be a magician at times whipping out finished products and furniture, making them work out of nothing. He does the electrical wiring around the house, drilled the curtain rails, plumbing and there is no corner of the house left untouched by him. And one f those works of art, is my own workdesk.

He cut out some wood from an old bed and made this lovely modern furniture look-a-like table for me to study and work on. Though some might see it as nothing special, to see it come to live from nothing is indeed a spectacle. Contemporary furniture might do the trick, but custom made just rocks and I'm loving it.

Thanks Pa.

No pics though. Cause my table is messy!

A spike in traffic?

I wish I can convey the greatest set of expletives to the select KPO few readers, but due to the PG nature of the blog, I shall not.

Let's dance.

Run to That Tree and Come Back!

And so it goes...

You are running to a tree. But as it gets closer and closer, and you thought the journey is over, or at least, you've completed the journey, something happened. The tree seems to go further as you go nearer. Alas, you're not sure what is happening. Are you heading to the right tree? Or is the tree not meant to be run to?

Life can be sooooo difficult to comprehend.

Honda Wave 125cc Fuel Consumption

I've been very much in love with my bike ever since I got it. From day 1, it has been a loyal servant, a reliable mule and a very speedy scooter. Looks can be deceiving, but my Honda Wave has travelled some 3000+ km in 2 months without a single major breakdown. And today I just feel like boasting about its fuel consumption! Go Green Mr Wise Guy!

I started tracking my mileage after I heard my friend saying that his bike is economical. A full tank can go for 1 week he said. I was not impressed especially my Honda Wave could stick through one week and probably another if I don't go far. Heheh. And yeah, he advised that it could be because I didn't travel far. School and back, school and back... That made sense.

Photobucket

So I logged in my first odometer reading last 2 Mondays at 85341.3 after topping up 3.2 ltrs of Shell 98. Yeah... Shell rocks. I think they're like the most viral petrol company here in Singapore. Here in my area, I am within 1 kilometer radius from 2 Shell stations. How cool is that?

Anyways for your info, I ride to school and back, and there are the odd occassions where I go to Bugis or Orchard for shopping or food. 50% urban, 50% highway would be best on how my usage pattern is.

And just today, I logged my odometer at 85485.4 after topping up 3.0 litres of Shell 98. So if we do the math...

Distance Travelled
85485.4 - 85341.3 = 144.1 KM

Honda Wave Fuel Consumption (km/l)
144.1 / 3 = 48.03.km/l

Honda Wave Fuel Consumption is 48.03km per litre! For my bike at least.... eheheh! So, if you love the Earth, but still desperately need a mode of personal transport, get a Honda Wave and Gaia will thank you for it!

Cats Do Not Have 9 Lives

Woke up very very late today to find out that a friend has just lost her pet to an illness just this morning. Its as if it was yesterday that we were talking about her pet, what breed it was and what does it do when she's at her most active. Memories we share with our pets are somewhat painted only in happiness for these animals do not know the meaning of hatred, revenge or ill intentions.

We share our sorrows with them when we're down, and its comforting to see them purring at our laps telling us that its gonna be okay. At times when I didn't have a good day in school or at work, just the sight of them at the doorstep makes me happy, knowing that I have a pet to return to and that I need to pick myself up and remain strong. Not to mention those days when I got jealous because they can sleep all they want whilst I am here at the table slogging away at school work.

Photobucket

There are so many wonderful things that happens when we have pets around. We learn to be more forgiving, see things in a lighter way and learn what is unconditional love. We can't punish them if they break a glass whilst in pursuit of a flying cockroach. Nor can we penalise them for making such a mess at their kitty pan as it is good enough that they do their stuff at the pan. Though they are only 1/8 or less as intelligent as us humans, there are just so many things we can learn from these wonderful God given creatures. All they want is a little food, some water, and a lot of love...... My condolences to Kitty.

Cats Fart Too!

Many things in life go unnoticed everyday like the bangladeshi cleaners who wakes up early in the morning to clean the neighbourhood, the guards on duty at SAF camps, the baking of breads at the bakery and of course, there's this question dying to be answered; do cats fart?

I have 2 cats, Coco and Cika. Both are females. Cika is the younger one at about 6 months old while Coco is about 1 year plus old. They're a nice addition the the human family.

Photobucket

So, what happened today that answers the question "Do cats fart?"

Coco was sleeping at my desk while I, was busy doing up my Physics Report. Coco woke up briefly, probably just recovering from a dream, when I heard this low rumbling noise emitting from Coco. It sounded like a motorbike getting a kickstart but only softer. What came next was this familiar smell of feces and sulphur... Coco just farted! EeeeeEeewww...

Human Clones as Insurance Policies

Hari Raya is here, but I've yet to go jalan-jalan other than Day #1. Its not that I didn't want to, relatives and uncles and aunts just keep coming, and it was odd that amidst all the commotion and salam-salaman, I managed to watch 'The Island' on Channel 5. And unfortunately no, it is nothing like the Survivor Series.

The movie was about a company, which offers clones as insurance policies. Let's just say that if a customer had kidney failure, or perhaps, liver failure, they could get a transplant from their clones who, well... Have to be killed in order to have their organs harvested. There is an option too to have a clone carry your baby for the whole 9 months. Before it all began, the company painted a rosy picture of their exact replicas, being kept in a vegetative state, not having any consciousness, or memories, but in reality, these replicas are alive, and move about like any other human. This is all possible with as little as US$5,000,000.

Photobucket

I remembered watching the movie 3 years back. It made me wonder if humans would go to that extent to live longer. Though it is an unethical alternative to acquiring new organs, who knows, some mad scientist might have already cloned the first human in pursuit of eternal life. In my opinions, clones have feelings, ideas, a working mind, and it would be wrong to perceive them as mere products, or tools like in the movie.

I'm not too sure if Man can ever engineer a living kidney, or even a finger. There are substitutes for bone such as aluminum crutches and all, but nothing beats the real thing. Okay, scientists have had success cultivating human ears on mice, but duh, you have to kill the mouse in order to get the ear. Even this mouse created uproar from the animal rights groups. Nevertheless, I doubt in my lifetime, Man will be successful in ever making one.

When Friends, aren't so Friendly

I watched Friends on Star World yesterday (after scrolling through countless of channels but found nothing) and boy it was fun. Fun in a sense where you wished you lived in a house with 5 other individuals who're such great company. I remembered vividly one scene where Jennifer Aniston's character's boyfriend shouted at an elderly couple for taking their seats at the theatre. He shouted something along the lines of "You Idiot! Oh so the steward told you this is your seat. Imagine the amount of training they had to go through to read that ticket. YOU IDIOT!"

Oh well, he could be charming and all, but if you got zero tolerance for nonsense, you gotta get a life. So, in a nutshell, "One should learn how to tolerate nonsense".

K, I'm blogging nonsense today.. Selamat Hari Raya to you. Yes YOU! you! yOu! YoU! and YOU!

I'm Your Guardian Angel

There are times where you get all emo, thinking of all the heroic deeds that you did back when you were younger. Like saving the brother from bullies, giving food to the needy, organising a mini-sports event for an orphanage and perhaps saving a damsel in distress. Life's gotta continue and we have to stop mulling over the past or perhaps, bask in our previous glory. Gotta look to the future, and seek ways to make a positive difference to the world around us!

As Engineers, we define the World.

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face I can't replace
And now that I'm strong I have figured out
How this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul
And I know I'll find deep inside me I can be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one

I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Cuz you're my, you're my, my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away
Cuz I'm here for you
Please don't walk away and
Please tell me you'll stay, stay

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I'll be okay
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Not A Good Day for Math

Urrrggghhh... Test didn't go so well. Zero is a high possibility. I hate Math.
